PIERRE MERCURE 1927-1966
Dir. Charles Gagnon (1970), 33 min.

Québec composer Pierre Mercure was widely known as an experimental composer who integrated music, dance, and theatre into an expressive form of new music. Pierre Mercure 1927-1966 is composed of a three-minute montage filmed by Gagnon at Mercure’s funeral and burial, which is looped eleven times and processed using colour filters and optical printing techniques that reverse and double the image.

All foreign language films will be shown with subtitles. We proudly offer captioning of all films at special request on Saturdays at 12:00pm if given notice 48 hours in advance of the regular screening.

Please note that our last free Saturday screening will take place Saturday June 17. After fourteen years on Queen Street West the Stephen Bulger Gallery will be moving to 1356/1358 Dundas Street West. We have enjoyed many years of programming free Saturday screenings in our unique CAMERA theatre and hope you have been able to enjoy a film or two! Thank you for your loyalty and we hope you will come visit our new exhibition space this fall.
